V.N. Kopylov House. If the miracles will happen more often…
Our fellow countryman, Ivan Kuskov from Totma founded Fort Ross in 1812. And now it is an evidence of the building by Russians following technology of the past.
The “Preservation of the Russian House in the Russian North” Project had been under implementation in 2011-2012 at the expense of the Grant of the American Ambassadors’ Fund for Cultural Preservation and budget funds of the Vologda Region. This Grant was given in acknowledgement of Russian contribution to North America exploration.
The results of the long-term project were summed up on December 16, 2014. That day representatives of authority, the public, scientific community and even the descendants of Vasily Kopylov, whose name is immortalized on subscription board of a pediment of the house gathered in the Museum.
The guests were conducted round the house. At the same time they traveled in time and met with representatives of different generations of the Kopylov family. The guests got acquainted with Michael V. Kopylov in the trade shop. He told them about brisk trade which was in the 70s of the XIX century. The winter room was added in the 80s of the XIX century. Probably it was related with marriage of Michael Kopylov’s elder son – Vasiliy. In the winter room the guests met with the newly-married couple. Vasiliy told them about tsarist service and his wife – Tatyana talked about their acquaintance and boasted of the big stove and furniture in the winter room.
Possibly the summer room which was built taking into account urban fashion at the end of the XIX century made the deepest impression on everyone. Outstanding and cheerful peasant world appeared before visitors of the museum.
After the reward ceremony the participants for paying up of contribution in house restoration, the guests tasted hot tea out of samovar with pies and shared their impressions. One of the guests noticed, “We have seen the miracle and let miracles have happened often.”
The Head of the Department of Culture, Tourism and Cultural Heritage Preservation of the Vologda region Vladimir Osipovskiy noted that the project not only preserved our heritage, but also shows the enormous potential of the museum "Semenkovo" in the development of tourism in the region.
